A week to remember

During the last one week I met more people than in the entire year…

We have been working in the field almost continuously since March. Due to shortage of time I had to organize all our lectures and other public appearances around the date of the GDT International Nature Photography Festival in Lünen. This happened to be from 26-28 October this year. Therefore we ended up with a very tight schedule for the last week of October.

After a short stay in London visiting friends, I traveled to Sepsiszentgyörgy (Sfantu Gheorghe) in Transylvania, Romania. János Demeter and Csaba Damokos put together an exhibition from my landscape and wildlife images from Iceland and Scandinavia, in the framework of the TransNatura project aiming to band together and educate nature photographers in Romania. The exhibition opened in the Lábas Ház on 24 October (see a photo about the opening ceremony below, taken by József Török), and I also presented multimedia shows on 25 October in the same place.HaarbergFrom Romania I flew straight to Germany to the GDT International Nature Photography Festival in Lünen. Here I met Erlend who was driving from Norway to this event. We had a presentation at this festival on 28 October - we introduced our Iceland project and presented an 18 minutes multimedia show to the audience of approx. 700 people (see the photo below, taken after our presentation by Lars Andreas Dybvik).HaarbergOn 26 October the prize-giving ceremony of the GDT Europen Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition took place at the same venue. At this competition (in a predominantly male-dominated field, as you can see it on the image below; photo by Lars Andreas Dybvik), one of my arctic fox photos was selected as a highly commended image in the category of Mammals (you can find the image under the menu Awards).
HaarbergIn addition, some of my photos have been exhibited during the festival as a part of the exhibition of naturArt, the Society of Hungarian Nature Photographers.

Simultaneously with the festival days in Lünen, I had a large exhibition at the Photo Fair in Copenhagen. The same exhibition had already been presented in Olso in March 2012 (see photo below, taken by Erlend Haarberg), and will travel further to the Stockholm Photo Fair, where it will open from 23-25 November. HaarbergAnd finally, on 29 October Erlend and I had a presentation about Iceland in the Oslo Kameraklubb. This time we talked in Norwegian. For me, this proved to be rather difficult after the presentation in English the previous day in Germany…

Now life is back to normal. Yesterday we arrived home to our cottage in the silent woods, where winter set in during the week we have been traveling in Europe.

Iceland in all its splendour

New Iceland book in English/German/Icelandic!
HaarbergWhen we started working in Iceland, we would have never thought that it would become such a success-story. We were planning to produce a book, but we did not expect publishing two books within a year!

The first edition, titled "Iceland - land of contrasts", was published by National Geographic Hungary in 2011 (see http://www.haarbergphoto.com/blog/archive/iceland_book_launched_-35).
And the new edition of our Iceland book, titled "Iceland in all its splendour", has just been released! This edition has a new design and a smaller format than the previous one (159 pages, 226 x 237 x 19 mm) and it has been published by FORLAGID/OPNA in Iceland.

The book contains 131 images and a brilliant text, written by Unnur Jökulsdóttir, Icelandic writer, exploring Iceland’s nature, geology, wildlife and geological history. We are so proud of publishing a book together with Unnur, the writer of the bestseller, titled “Icelanders”!

The book is available in English, German and Icelandic languages and can be purchased in Icelandic book shops or at http://www.eymundsson.is/nanar/?productid=7bd891d2-af2c-4513-a534-ab3971cd5497 (the site is in Icelandic, but they do international shipping) and at http://www.forlagid.is/?p=605733.

Since 2005, we have travelled together as a team, constantly being on the move to capture those memorable experiences in nature, with our cameras in our hands. Our projects capture different parts of the "Cap of the North", in a never-ending search for eye-catching scenes, and the magic light that is so characteristic of this region. It is the desire to get back to our roots – to live with nature that inspires us to create the images that we do.
